Trauma Focused Therapy

Trauma has quickly become a buzzword in pop culture recently, but what actually defines a traumatic experience? Trauma is the result of the following incidences:

  • Abuse (physical, emotional, spiritual, sexual, psychological)

  • Witnessing or being a part of a terrifying, life-changing event

  • Assault

  • Accidents

  • Neglect

  • Violence

  • War

  • Terminal/chronic illness

When we do not properly process the emotions around these events, they can become stuck in our brains and bodies causing a number of debilitating symptoms from anxiety and depression to somatic symptoms that we can physically witness or feel.

Trauma focused therapy can help client’s effectively process the experience, returning the client to feelings of safety. In working with clients who receive trauma focused therapy, I utilize my knowledge of neurobiology and the nervous system to help my clients regain a sense of stability. You do not have to be alone in your distress, together we can help heal the parts of you that feel scared, disempowered, or devastated.
